The latest award ceremony of the “Junior.ING” student competition took place at Europa-Park. Under the theme “Roller Coaster - Upside Down and Over,” innovative marble runs created by students were showcased.
Innovative Marble Runs Under the “Roller Coaster” Theme
In Baden-Württemberg, the annual “Junior.ING” student competition of the Engineering Chamber once again impressed with creative constructions. Students were tasked with designing and building their own marble runs under the theme “Roller Coaster - Upside Down and Over.” The most cleverly engineered tracks were recognized during the competition.
The Mack Family and Their Support for the Competition
The Mack family, operators of Europa-Park, expressed their pleasure at hosting the event once again. This commitment seamlessly integrates into the park's efforts to nurture young talent and raise awareness for STEM careers. The park's continuous growth and investments in the construction sector were highlighted by the recent inauguration of its 14th roller coaster, “Voltron Nevera powered by Rimac.”
Winners of the Competition
This year's winners were ceremoniously announced at the Europa-Park Dome. Romi and Marie Rettinger captivated the judges in the category for students up to grade 8 with their model, “Tran-Tem-Tem.” In the older student category, Oliver Wrobel, Dennis Langhof, Friedrich Enderle, and Elias Jonsson impressed with their design “5 of 5,” which notably featured innovative mechanisms such as a tension spring that propels a marble through a loop without any incline.
Significance of the Competition and Support from Political Representatives
The competition, which is held nationwide, aims to spark interest in engineering professions and practically engage students with engineering tasks. Sandra Boser, State Secretary at the Ministry for Culture, Youth, and Sports, emphasized the importance of promoting STEM careers at the award ceremony and praised the creativity and technical understanding of the participants.
Outlook and Future Implications
The state competition winners qualify for the upcoming national competition in Berlin. Such competitions are crucial for fostering early technical understanding and providing young innovators with a platform to demonstrate and further develop their skills.
