Walibi Belgium has announced an investment of 1 million euros for the renovation of its legendary dark ride “Challenge of Tutankhamon”. This investment marks a significant milestone in the park's history and underscores its commitment to innovation and top-tier visitor experiences.

A Transforming Attraction

Since its opening in 2003, “Challenge of Tutankhamon” has established itself as one of the most impressive dark rides in the Benelux countries. The interactive attraction, which takes visitors on an adventurous journey through the tomb of Tutankhamun, has been a crowd favorite from the beginning. However, after nearly two decades of operation, a comprehensive technical overhaul was necessary to future-proof the attraction and meet the increasing expectations of visitors.

Technological Renewal as the Core of the Investment

The main motivation for the renovation was the need to replace outdated technologies and align the attraction with current safety standards. Much of the original technology from 2003 is no longer in production, leading to capacity constraints and operational limitations. Hence, the investment focuses primarily on modernizing the technical equipment and enhancing safety.

Revitalizing the Vehicles

A central element of the renovation is the complete renewal of the thirteen vehicles at the attraction. These have been equipped with an entirely new chassis, incorporating cutting-edge technologies from the Dutch manufacturer ETF Ride Systems. These improvements not only guarantee a more reliable and smoother ride, but also significantly increase passenger safety.

Enhancements in the Boarding Area

Another important aspect of the renovation is the redesign of the boarding platform. To facilitate access to the larger, modernized vehicles, the platform has been widened and lowered. An additional gray extension helps visitors safely bridge the distance to the cars, significantly improving the accessibility of the attraction.

Walibi Winter: A Glimpse of the New

During the new winter event “Walibi Winter”, visitors have the opportunity to get a first glimpse of the progress of the renovation works. After the event, the maintenance and modernization of the attraction will continue, focusing on the outdated components supplied by Sally Dark Rides, including the shooting system and animatronics. This phase of the renovation aims to combine the nostalgic elements of the attraction with state-of-the-art technology.

A New Chapter for “Challenge of Tutankhamon”

The comprehensive renovation of “Challenge of Tutankhamon” is a clear commitment from Walibi Belgium to the constant renewal and improvement of its attractions. This investment shows the importance of preserving proven experience while keeping pace with technological developments. “Challenge of Tutankhamon” will thus offer an unforgettable experience not only to the park's loyal fans but also to new visitors.

In the dynamic world of amusement parks, Walibi Belgium sets a clear signal with this investment. The renovation of “Challenge of Tutankhamon" is more than just a refreshment of a popular attraction; it is a promise for the future, redefining the standards for immersive experiences in amusement parks. With this transformation, Walibi Belgium reaffirms its reputation as one of the most innovative and visitor-friendly amusement parks in Europe.
