The expansion plans for Toverland amusement park face significant obstacles. The environmental and nature conservation organization Natuur en Milieufederatie Limburg (NMF) has officially expressed concerns about the ambitious expansion plans. NMF's environmental concerns include the endangerment of protected species and potential environmental damage that could result from the park's development projects.

Environmental Concerns at the Heart of Criticism

The NMF highlights that Toverland's planned expansion could significantly impact local wildlife. Specifically, field swallows, house sparrows, barn owls, and little owls are mentioned as species at risk. Additionally, the organization critically views the use of fireworks, as well as the nitrogen calculations and groundwater withdrawals mentioned in the plans, which could lead to an increase in fine dust.

Traffic and Cumulative Effects as Additional Problem Areas

Besides environmental concerns, NMF also warns of potential traffic problems due to increased visitor numbers. Another point of criticism is the lack of consideration for cumulative effects from concurrent leisure developments near Toverland.

The future of the Toverland expansion remains uncertain

Given NMF's concerns, Toverland faces the challenge of reconsidering its expansion plans. The final decision on the realization of these plans now lies with the municipal council. Toverland's dream of having its own holiday park, new theme areas, and a hotel thus depends on the outcomes of upcoming environmental impact assessments.
