On May 21, 2024, a remarkable event took place at Toverland amusement park. Three lucky winners had the unique opportunity to climb to the highest points of three of the park's most impressive roller coasters. This experience was part of a special contest launched last year.

An Extraordinary Prize for Roller Coaster Enthusiasts

Instead of the usual prizes like goodie bags or free tickets, Toverland offered a climbing tour on the roller coasters Fenix, Dwervelwind, and Troy. Participants had the chance to enjoy spectacular views from the highest points of these rides. On the day of the event, six winners strapped in and safely ascended the structures, reaching heights of 21, 35, and 40 meters.

Participants' Motivations

Sanne, one of the winners, shared: “I had never won a contest before, so this was a dream come true. I've been a fan of roller coasters since childhood, and this climbing tour was something exceptional.” Yvonne added, “Since we've had grandchildren, we visit Toverland at least twice a year.” Sebastiaan explained, “I follow Toverland on social media and had to participate. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

Initial reactions to winning

The news of the win came as a giant surprise. Sebastiaan recounted, “I was completely surprised and curious about what it would be like to climb the roller coasters on foot.” Bart found the idea unrealistic at first when invited by his sister. Sanne added, “I could hardly believe it and initially thought it was spam. The joy was immense.”

Connection to Roller Coasters and Amusement Parks

Sanne explained her passion: “Our family regularly visits amusement parks, and I've passed this love on to my children.” Bart added, “I’ve ridden 253 roller coasters and regularly plan trips with my sister.” Sebastiaan and his partner often spend their vacations at amusement parks and visit Toverland several times a year.

Experiences While Climbing

Climbing the roller coasters was an unforgettable experience for all participants. Sanne described the view as beautiful and the explanations about the roller coasters as very informative. Bart found the climb on Troy particularly impressive. Sebastiaan enjoyed the extended view from Fenix and found the accompanying information very interesting.

Intensity and Favorites

Participants agreed that the climb on Troy was the most intense due to the need for constant re-securing. Yvonne and Bart preferred the climb on Troy, while Sanne and Sebastiaan found Fenix the most beautiful. The steep and long climb on Fenix offered a special challenge.

Looking Back on a Unique Experience

Sebastiaan summed it up: “It was a unique experience that I, as a Toverland fan, wouldn't have wanted to miss.” Sanne fondly remembered the experiences and felt a bit envious of the staff who get to climb these roller coasters daily. Bart and Yvonne expressed the desire to repeat such an experience and praised the organization of the event.
