The Spanish theme park resort PortAventura World, located about 100 kilometers south of Barcelona, will expand its offerings on August 19, 2024, with a unique mixed reality experience: “Hysteria in Boothill.” This new adventure takes place in the “Far West” area of PortAventura Park and promises an eerie experience that innovatively blends reality with virtual elements.

Mixed Reality Meets the Wild West: An Immersive Experience

“Hysteria in Boothill” allows small groups of up to six people to search for the remains of the mysteriously vanished “McGregor family” from the village of Penitence. Participants will wear the cutting-edge “Meta Quest 3” headset, which allows them to see and interact with both the real environment and virtual supernatural elements. The storyline is guided by the medium, “Madame Bladsky,” who leads the groups through the approximately 200-square-meter themed experience area.

Participation Requirements and Language Options for the Horror Experience

Specific participation requirements apply to this new horror experience: The minimum age is 12, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. “Hysteria in Boothill” will be available in four languages: Catalan, Spanish, French, and English.

Development and Collaboration with Spatial Voyagers

The experience was developed in collaboration with the Spanish company Spatial Voyagers, which specializes in innovative technologies and immersive experiences. Andreu Tobella Brunet, Digital Director of PortAventura World, emphasizes that this project further underscores the resort's commitment to technological innovation and exceptional entertainment. The goal is to offer visitors a surreal experience filled with paranormal phenomena, unlike anything seen before.

Technology and Storytelling at the Highest Level

Edgar Martín-Blas Méndez, CEO of Spatial Voyagers, describes the challenge of creating a never-before-achieved real-virtual dimension. Both the technical and narrative aspects were crucial in providing participants with a constant sense of surprise and blurring the line between reality and fiction.

PortAventura sets new standards for Immersive Experiences

With “Hysteria in Boothill,” PortAventura World sets a new standard for immersive experiences, offering visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world where reality is remarkably expanded.
