The Warrior Games return to the Walt Disney World Resort in 2024, starting with a patriotic welcome night at Magic Kingdom Park. An inspiring opening event follows at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, honoring over 200 athletes.

Welcome Night at Magic Kingdom Park

This year's Warrior Games commenced on Friday evening with a private welcome event at Magic Kingdom Park. Jeff Vahle, President of the Walt Disney World Resort, warmly greeted the participants and emphasized Disney's commitment to military heroes and their families. He highlighted various initiatives, including “Heroes Work Here,” “Heroes Supply Here,” and the “Disney’s Veterans Institute,” all aimed at providing support to veterans and their families.

Numerous activities were organized for the athletes and their families. They had the opportunity to meet Disney characters and enjoy popular attractions such as the TRON Lightcycle / Run and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. A special moment of the evening was the extended performance of the National Anthem by Jackie Isham, followed by the lighting of Cinderella Castle in the colors of the American flag.

Opening Event at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex

On Saturday evening, the opening event of the Warrior Games took place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Over 200 athletes from the US Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force gathered at the AdventHealth Arena to officially start the games. The highlight of the ceremony was the ceremonial lighting of the 2024 Warrior Games cauldron.

The event included a parade of athletes and a welcome speech by Maribeth Bisienere, Senior Vice President of Operations at Walt Disney World. Speeches and entertainment performances, produced in collaboration between Disney and the Department of Defense, added a special touch to the evening. The event was hosted by Stephanie Ramos, an ABC News correspondent and Major in the US Army Reserve.

The next nine days will be dedicated to competitions designed to support the recovery of wounded, ill, and injured service members. The games provide these brave men and women with a platform to showcase their athletic abilities while celebrating their courage and determination.
