TRON Lightcycle / Run: Virtual Queue Ends: Switch to Regular Standby Line on September 9, 2024

For over two years, the popular “TRON Lightcycle / Run” attraction at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World has used a virtual queue boarding group system. However, this system will end on September 9, 2024, as the attraction transitions to a regular standby line. This change will bring a new queuing system for guests and impact the usual park experience.

The virtual queue, which has been in place since the attraction’s opening, will be discontinued. Until September 8, 2024, it will remain active, allowing guests to attempt to secure a spot in the virtual queue once per day during regular park hours. Notably, there are two designated times to join the queue – 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM.

While the 7:00 AM queue time can be accessed from outside the park, guests must be inside Magic Kingdom to join the queue at 1:00 PM. This ensures a fair chance for all visitors trying to secure a spot.

Overlapping Virtual Queues

Another important factor is the simultaneous use of two virtual queues in the park. In addition to “TRON Lightcycle / Run,” “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure” also operates with a virtual queue. Guests cannot join both queues at the same time, meaning they must choose between the two attractions.

Looking Back: The Use of Virtual Queues

The decision to eliminate the virtual queue for “TRON Lightcycle / Run” brings to mind similar moves made by Walt Disney World in the past. Attractions such as “Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure” and “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance” previously transitioned from virtual queues to regular standby lines. In the case of the Ratatouille ride, the switch happened relatively quickly, raising hopes that other attractions would follow suit. However, as it turns out, “TRON Lightcycle / Run” maintained its virtual queue for over two years before making the change.

By ending the boarding group system, Walt Disney World is returning to traditional standby lines, offering guests more flexibility but potentially longer wait times. It remains to be seen how this shift will affect the overall guest experience.

After September 9, 2024, there will no longer be an option to join the virtual queue for “TRON Lightcycle / Run.”
