Guests at Magic Kingdom in Disney World can look forward to exciting updates for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin starting in 2026. This popular Tomorrowland attraction will feature a new show scene, enhanced vehicles, and interactive gameplay elements. The transformation begins with a temporary closure in August 2025.
Exciting Updates Await in 2026
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will return in 2026 with thrilling enhancements. A brand-new show scene, upgraded Star Cruisers, and interactive features will elevate the experience. To prepare for these changes, the attraction will close temporarily in August 2025 and reopen next year for all aspiring Space Rangers.
New Character Buddy Welcomes Guests
The adventure will kick off with “Buddy,” a friendly robot joining the Star Command team. Designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios, Buddy serves as a support bot. He performs final system checks on the Star Cruisers, cheers guests on with enthusiasm, and lets them practice their blaster accuracy with new interactive targets before they set off to defeat Emperor Zurg and save the galaxy.
Upgraded Star Cruisers with Fresh Design
The Star Cruisers will undergo a complete facelift, drawing inspiration from Buzz Lightyear’s iconic colors and Star Command’s style. Equipped with new video monitors, they will display real-time scores and additional exciting features. These enhancements will make every ride more immersive and engaging.
Handheld Blasters Boost Precision
Each Star Cruiser will come with new handheld blasters, ideal for younger riders. These tools improve aiming accuracy and help players rack up more points. Available in two colors per vehicle, the blasters feature continuous lasers along with light, sound, and vibration effects, ensuring players always know where they’re aiming during the mission.
Interactive Targets Respond to Hits
The static Z-targets will be upgraded with cutting-edge technology that brings them to life. They’ll light up and react when hit, creating a dynamic gameplay experience. This innovation opens the door for the Imagineers to explore further creative ideas to enhance the adventure.
Playtests Refine the Experience
The project recently hit a key milestone when Imagineering colleagues participated in a playtest. They tested the new targets, blasters, and gameplay concepts in a real setting. “Everyone had a blast, and our team learned a lot,” said Justin DeTolla, the project’s creative director. These playtests are vital for trying out different concepts and gathering insights to perfect the experience for guests. Development has been underway for some time, and seeing the first results in action was a thrilling moment.
