A new world record was set on September 3rd at the Liseberg amusement park in Sweden: with an average age of 80.1 years, 18 seniors took on the thrilling Valkyria roller coaster. This record vividly demonstrates that a sense of adventure knows no age limits.

Record-Breaking Ride at Liseberg: Seniors Defy Gravity

On the morning of Tuesday, September 3rd, 18 seniors gathered at Liseberg amusement park to make history. The event: a ride on Valkyria, Europe's longest dive coaster, with the goal of breaking the previous world record for the highest average age on a roller coaster ride. Reaching a breathtaking top speed of 105 km/h and featuring a vertical drop of 50 meters, Valkyria offered the adventurous seniors an unforgettable experience. The participants' average age of 80.1 years set a new world record.

A Heart-Pounding Challenge: Participant Quotes

Lars Cederberg, 84 years old and from Falköping, was one of the brave participants. Right after the ride, he expressed his overwhelming emotions: “It was a mix of fear and joy, an incredible experience. I’ve spent so many wonderful days in this amusement park, and it was great to give something back by coming here and setting a world record.” Iréne Holmqvist, 76 years old, from Mariestad, was also thrilled: “It was fantastic; I wanted to go again immediately. It's so great to be a world record holder, but the best part was meeting all the new friends who rode Valkyria with me.”

Preparing for the Record: Liseberg Seeks “Super Seniors”

The idea to break the world record originated from Liseberg itself. A few weeks ago, the park launched a call for adventurous seniors who wanted to set a world record for the highest average age on a roller coaster. The response was overwhelming: over two hundred seniors from across Sweden expressed interest in participating in this historic ride. Due to the high demand, Liseberg decided to organize additional rides for other groups of seniors, giving as many as possible the chance to be part of this significant event.

A Record That Makes History

The new record at Liseberg broke the previous one set in 2003 at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the United Kingdom, where a roller coaster car achieved an average age of 75.25 years. With the average new age of 80.1 years, Liseberg has set a new milestone that not only celebrates the adventurous spirit of seniors but also promotes inclusivity and courage within the park.
