The Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg is once again facing challenges ahead of its Halloween season. Due to repeated disturbances, particularly among groups of teenagers, the park has sent a mass message to parents via the Vklass platform. The goal is to improve young visitors' behavior during the Halloween celebrations.
Liseberg Appeals to Parents: Strengthened Measures Ahead of Halloween
In preparation for this year’s Halloween festivities, which begin on October 4 and run until November 3, Liseberg has implemented preventive measures. Through a mass message sent via the Vklass platform, the park urged parents in Gothenburg to talk to their children about appropriate behavior while at the park. This action became necessary after recurring disturbances caused by groups of young visitors in recent years.
According to Mårten Westlund, Head of Communications at Liseberg, peer pressure and the unique atmosphere of Halloween often push teenagers to cross the line of acceptable behavior. Common issues include cutting in line, provoking security personnel, and disturbing other guests.
Escalations and Police Intervention: Safety Concerns Under Scrutiny
Last year’s escalations prompted drastic actions by the park. Within a single month, 50 visitors had their season passes revoked due to repeated misbehavior. These individuals were banned from the park for causing disturbances and disregarding park rules. Particularly concerning were incidents where teenagers challenged security or provoked park staff.
Despite increased security measures, another serious incident occurred in August 2024 in Liseberg’s Kaninlandet, the park’s children's area. A brawl involving about ten people ended with police intervention. A security guard was injured while trying to de-escalate the situation. Two individuals are now under investigation for assault. According to the police, the incident was difficult to control, especially with the large crowd in the park at the time.
Targeted Monitoring: Liseberg Tightens Security Protocols
In response to the repeated disturbances, Liseberg has adjusted its security strategy. The park now specifically monitors areas that have been trouble spots in the past. Additionally, they are working proactively to identify behavioral patterns to prevent incidents before they occur. These measures aim to ensure that this year’s Halloween celebrations proceed without major disruptions.
Westlund explained that it is crucial to ensure a safe environment ahead of time. The appeal to parents and young visitors is a key part of this strategy. The goal is to improve behavior in the park, making the Halloween experience safer and more enjoyable for all guests.
Halloween at Liseberg: A Park in Transition
Halloween at Liseberg begins on October 4 this year and runs through November 3. The annual event is a highlight at the Swedish amusement park, drawing thousands of visitors each year. However, the increasing incidents in recent years have forced the park to further strengthen its security concept. Targeted monitoring and stricter controls are intended to help make this year’s Halloween festivities safer.
The park hopes that these enhanced measures and the stronger appeal to parents and teenagers will lead to a more positive experience for all guests.
