Starting September 1st, Michael Ottesen, currently the Regional Director for Lidl East, will assume the role of Director at LEGOLAND® Billund. He will succeed Christian Woller, who is taking on a new position at Merlin Entertainments.

Extensive Leadership Experience

Michael Ottesen brings extensive experience in operations, business development, and managing large teams, making him an ideal choice for leading LEGOLAND® Billund. Christian Woller, Regional Managing Director at LEGOLAND Resorts, expressed confidence that Ottesen will quickly familiarize himself with the theme park industry and elevate the experiences at LEGOLAND® to new heights.

Background in Retail

Although Ottesen’s career has primarily been in retail, including positions at Aldi Denmark and Lidl Denmark, he is eager to embrace this new challenge. He has a solid understanding of international organizations and strong leadership skills, and he looks forward to taking the reins at LEGOLAND® Billund and getting to know the organization.

Insight from a Visitor's Perspective

Born and raised in Vejle, Michael Ottesen has frequently visited LEGOLAND® with his family. His three children, aged 11, 15, and 17, held season passes, providing Ottesen with a good understanding of the park from a visitor’s viewpoint. Now, he is excited to learn about the internal operations and support the employees in their daily work.

Focus on Guest Experience and Employees

Ottesen does not plan major changes but sees potential for improvements in the park, particularly in guest experience and employee support. LEGOLAND® Billund employs 250 permanent staff and approximately 1,600 seasonal workers. In 2022, the park reported a revenue of 871 million kroner and a post-tax profit of 193 million kroner.
