When LEGOLAND® Billund opens its gates on April 5, 2025, visitors can look forward to an exciting new addition to Pirate Land: a 900-square-meter inclusive pirate playground designed for children of all abilities. This attraction has been thoughtfully crafted to ensure that children with and without physical disabilities can enjoy the pirate adventure together. At the heart of the playground is an impressive pirate ship, offering a variety of interactive experiences.

LEGOLAND® Director Michael Ottesen emphasizes the park’s commitment to accessibility, stating that the goal was to create a playground where all children can participate equally. With this new addition, Pirate Land becomes even more engaging, reinforcing LEGOLAND® Billund’s dedication to fun and inclusivity.

An Impressive Pirate Ship as the Centerpiece

The playground's main attraction is a 21.5-meter-long pirate ship, spanning three levels. The towering 11.5-meter mast serves as a climbing and play structure, inviting children to crawl through tight passageways, explore different decks, and engage in exciting pirate adventures. Kids can take aim with cannons, climb the rigging, and zoom down slides, immersing themselves in an action-packed world.

A key design focus was accessibility. The pirate ship and other playground elements have been built to accommodate wheelchair users, ensuring that children with mobility impairments can actively participate in the fun. This inclusive approach allows everyone to experience the thrill of climbing, sliding, and engaging in imaginative pirate play.

The ship’s design draws inspiration from iconic LEGO® sets released over the past 15 to 20 years, particularly the well-known LEGO® box "The Brick Bounty." This connection gives the pirate ship an authentic LEGO® aesthetic, seamlessly integrating it into LEGOLAND® Billund’s themed environment.

Exciting Adventures for All Ages

Beyond the massive pirate ship, the new playground features Kongekrabbens Ø, a pirate island specifically designed for younger visitors. With safe slides and climbing structures, it provides a perfect setting for small children to enjoy their first pirate adventures.

Older children can test their skills on challenging obstacles that require balance and agility. Additionally, interactive building areas invite visitors of all ages to unleash their creativity with LEGO® bricks, allowing them to construct their own imaginative creations. This combination of physical play and creative building offers a well-rounded experience that perfectly embodies the spirit of LEGOLAND®.

Captain Redbeard Joins the LEGOLAND® Crew

With the launch of the new pirate playground, LEGOLAND® Billund is also introducing a new LEGO® character: Captain Redbeard. Known for his relentless quest for treasure, this iconic pirate figure will be available for "Meet & Greet" sessions throughout the park. Guests will have the opportunity to take photos with him, give him a high-five, and embark on fun-filled pirate escapades.

Captain Redbeard has long been a beloved character in the LEGO® Pirates universe, making him a perfect addition to the new pirate-themed expansion. Starting in April, he will be a regular presence at Pirate Land, delighting visitors of all ages.

More Exciting Additions to LEGOLAND® Billund in 2025

Beyond the pirate playground, visitors can look forward to several other exciting new features at LEGOLAND® Billund in 2025.

A brand-new Aarhus-themed area is being added to Miniland, featuring highly detailed LEGO® recreations of the Danish city’s landmarks and famous sites. This miniature version of Aarhus will allow guests to take a LEGO®-themed tour of one of Denmark’s most important cities.

Another highlight of the season is the new LEGO® store, which offers visitors the unique opportunity to design their very own LEGO® Minifigure. This interactive experience lets guests create a personalized LEGO® character, making for a one-of-a-kind souvenir that blends creativity and play.

With these additions, LEGOLAND® Billund continues to push boundaries in both inclusive play and interactive entertainment. The new pirate playground provides an adventurous and accessible space for children of all abilities, while the expanded attractions further enhance the overall experience. By combining LEGO® creativity, interactive character encounters, and innovative playground design, LEGOLAND® Billund remains one of the most exciting family destinations for the upcoming season.
