In 2025, LEGOLAND® Billund is introducing an impressive expansion to Miniland: Denmark’s second-largest city, Aarhus, will be recreated in an intricately detailed LEGO® miniature. Spanning an area of 310 square meters, the new section will feature seven iconic Aarhus landmarks, built using more than 2.5 million LEGO® bricks. Visitors can look forward to seeing stunning recreations of landmarks such as Aarhus Domkirke, Rådhuset, the ARoS Art Museum with Olafur Eliasson’s Rainbow Panorama, and Isbjerget. Each building is constructed at a 1:20 scale, ensuring that the new miniature city is visible from every vantage point in Miniland.

Aarhus Joins Miniland – A Spectacular Addition to LEGOLAND®

LEGOLAND® Billund is expanding its renowned Miniland with an exciting new addition dedicated to Aarhus. This new section joins the ranks of other Danish miniature cities, including Copenhagen, Skagen, Ribe, and Esbjerg. The selected buildings have been carefully chosen to represent both the historical and modern aspects of Aarhus.

LEGOLAND® Director Michael Ottesen is excited about the new project, emphasizing the extraordinary attention to detail that has gone into the construction. After months of planning and development, guests will soon be able to experience a meticulously crafted cityscape that captures the essence of Aarhus.

The Aarhus Domkirke will be the tallest structure in the new section, standing at an impressive five meters. The ARoS Art Museum will feature its famous Rainbow Panorama by Olafur Eliasson, specially designed to create the illusion of visitors walking inside the vibrant artwork. Meanwhile, Isbjerget, the award-winning residential complex on Aarhus’ waterfront, will extend nearly 4.5 meters in length, offering an eye-catching centerpiece for the new Miniland expansion.

A Complex Design and Construction Process

The concept for the new Aarhus section in Miniland was developed as early as the summer of 2023. Since then, LEGOLAND® designers and master builders have made several visits to Aarhus to study the architecture and distinctive characteristics of each landmark. Particular attention was given to the intricate design of Salling Rooftop, which posed a unique challenge for the LEGO® builders due to its complex roof structure.

Throughout the design process, every architectural element was carefully analyzed to ensure that the miniature buildings not only look authentic but are also structurally sound and durable. In addition to the main landmarks, special care has been taken to bring the miniature city to life with realistic street scenes, colorful facades, and tiny LEGO® figures interacting with the urban environment.

LEGO® Precision Meets Aarhus’ Cultural Heritage

The selection of buildings for Miniland was driven by a thoughtful approach to showcasing Aarhus’ architectural diversity and cultural significance. The Aarhus Domkirke represents the city’s deep historical roots, while the ARoS Art Museum and its striking Rainbow Panorama capture its dynamic, modern character. Banegården, Aarhus’ central train station, and Åboulevarden, known for its vibrant cafés and shopping areas, illustrate the daily life and energy of the city.

By combining traditional and contemporary landmarks, the new Aarhus section creates a unique cityscape that not only delights LEGO® fans but also offers a rich and immersive look at the essence of Aarhus.

Grand Opening in April 2025 – A Must-See for LEGOLAND® Visitors

The Aarhus-themed Miniland expansion will officially open on April 5, 2025. This remarkable addition, built from millions of LEGO® bricks, promises a one-of-a-kind experience for visitors of all ages. With this expansion, LEGOLAND® Billund continues to push the boundaries of LEGO® model-building, offering guests an extraordinary new perspective on the city of Aarhus.
