LEGOLAND® Billund is about to witness a significant milestone. On October 27th, the park honors a man who has dedicated four decades of his life to this amusement park: Egon Heering Nielsen.
Beginning at "Ombord" Restaurant
In 1979, Egon Heering Nielsen first stepped into LEGOLAND® Billund. After completing his education up to the 9th grade, he embarked on his journey at the "Ombord" Restaurant. As the
"blue boy", he was the backbone of the team, refilling beverages and ensuring that his colleagues had everything they needed. A role that might sound humble but was indispensable for the smooth operation of the restaurant.
From an Attraction to the Heart of the Park
After a brief stint in other fields, Egon returned to LEGOLAND in 1988. This time, he was part of the Timber Ride attraction and supervised the popular Mini-Boats. However, he found his true calling in 1994 when he took on the responsibility of cleaning and maintaining Miniland. This section, being the heart of LEGOLAND, has since benefited from Egon's tireless dedication and meticulous care.
Miniland – A Gem Because of Egon's Commitment
Egon has taken it upon himself to keep Miniland in pristine condition. His diligent care ensures the complex LEGO structures are always presented flawlessly. When the LEGOLAND gates close at the end of the season, his work does not wane. On the contrary, he dives deep into preparations for the upcoming year to provide visitors with another unforgettable experience.
One Man, One Team – The LEGOLAND Family
Egon's enthusiasm for his work is unmistakable. Yet, when asked about the best aspect of his job at LEGOLAND, he emphasizes teamwork. The trust and freedom granted to him in his role hold a special place in his heart. The overseas trips and the close bond with his colleagues are cherished memories he holds dear.
Personal Life – A Passion on Two Wheels
Apart from his work at LEGOLAND, Egon has another passion: motorcycling. For over 30 years, he's been exploring the roads on his Honda 1100, often accompanied by his younger brother. He also savors tranquil moments – be it on a bike ride or a walk in nature.
A Celebration of Gratitude
To honor Egon's outstanding contribution, LEGOLAND is hosting an open reception on October 27th at 11:00 AM in the Multihaus of the LEGOLAND Hotel. A fitting tribute for a man who has wholeheartedly committed himself to the park.
With Egon Heering Nielsen, LEGOLAND® Billund is not only celebrating an anniversary, but also the dedication and passion that make the park what it is today. A life for LEGOLAND - Egon Heering Nielsen's impressive 40-year journey.
