The LEGOLAND® Deutschland Resort continues to expand: With 500 new staff rooms, the Bavarian theme park creates ideal living conditions for its team. Who benefits? Around 2,000 employees from over 60 nations who bring the resort to life during peak season. When and where? The new accommodations are available now across the park and Feriendorf grounds.
Housing More Than a Small Village
The LEGOLAND® Deutschland Resort boosts its staff accommodations to 450 single rooms and 50 double rooms across 24 buildings. Each room, sized at 16 m² or 29 m² with a private bathroom, offers comfort and privacy at attractive rent prices that include broadcasting fees. Fully furnished with a bed, wardrobe, flat-screen TV, fridge, and kitchen utensils, new employees also receive a welcome package containing a frying pan, pots, dishes, and cutlery. Modern communal areas enhance the living experience, featuring kitchens with TVs for shared cooking evenings, utility rooms with washing machines, and outdoor fitness zones. Parking spaces, individual mailboxes, and a DHL post station further simplify daily life for residents.
Ideal Conditions for an International Team
With 2,000 employees during high season, the resort addresses a growing need for housing. The first staff accommodations were built near the park in 2016, followed by additional units in the Feriendorf in 2021. This latest expansion reinforces its status as an appealing employer. “For many of our staff, LEGOLAND is more than a job—it’s a home away from home,” says Managing Director Manuela Stone, emphasizing the resort’s aim to be a second home for its team. Teambuilding activities, leisure programs, and tailored onboarding seminars foster a sense of community and ease the transition into work life. These efforts build a positive atmosphere that boosts motivation and supports the company’s long-term success. Tourism and hotel management expert Dr. Hans-Peter Sattler notes, “In the tourism industry, it’s vital to deliver exceptional guest experiences while meeting employees’ needs.”
Growth Fuels Demand for Talent
Since opening in 2002, the LEGOLAND® Deutschland Resort has evolved into a global short-break destination. Over the past decade, it added new accommodation options, three new themed areas, and a second theme park. The Feriendorf, launched in 2008, grew with imaginative themed stays: princesses and knights rest in Ritterburgen, young ninjas sleep in the NINJAGO Quartier, and adventurous pirates dive into the LEGO® Piratenwelt. In 2023, the Waldabenteuer Lodge™ added 80 nature-immersed rooms. This steady growth increases staffing needs. In a region with low unemployment, the resort recruits internationally to attract top talent. The new staff housing marks a key milestone for its future.
Sustainability at the Core
The new buildings prioritize energy efficiency, meeting the KfW-40 standard with an energy demand of 48.8 to 52.0 kWh/(m²·a), below the KfW-55 benchmark. Sustainable heating systems have evolved over time: gas heaters were installed in 2016 and 2018, while heat pumps and photovoltaic panels took over from 2021. In the current 2024/25 expansion phase, photovoltaic systems paired with efficient infrared heaters provide eco-friendly warmth. This approach blends growth with environmental responsibility.
