LEGOLAND Deutschland Shines Purple: A Symbol of Inclusion and Diversity

On December 3rd, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, LEGOLAND Deutschland participated in the global Purple Light Up campaign. The park was illuminated in purple, with the accessible roller coaster “Das Große LEGO Rennen” taking center stage. This symbolic use of color highlights the park’s commitment to promoting inclusion and recognizing people with disabilities as full and valued members of society.

Christian Sichert, Director of the Feriendorf & Admission, emphasized the importance of the initiative: “LEGOLAND Deutschland is a place where people with and without disabilities should feel the same spark of joy. The Purple Light Up campaign is a powerful symbol of equality and social participation for people with disabilities.”

Social responsibility and ongoing commitment

LEGOLAND Deutschland’s dedication to inclusivity extends beyond the Purple Light Up campaign. Through its charitable organization “Merlin’s Magic Wand” and the LEGOLAND Fun Season, the park provides year-round support to individuals with disabilities. This year, approximately 6,700 complimentary day tickets were distributed, allowing affected families to enjoy a stress-free day at the park. Additionally, 400 free tickets and 35 overnight stays at the LEGOLAND Feriendorf were offered, giving many families a welcome break from their daily challenges and a chance to create joyful memories.

Since 2006, LEGOLAND Deutschland has partnered with the Dominikus-Ringeisen-Werk in Ursberg, a church foundation supporting over 5,000 individuals with various disabilities. As part of this collaboration, people under the foundation’s care have been tasked with packaging LEGO collectible bricks for the park. Since 2011, an impressive 9.8 million bricks have been carefully prepared. Manuela Stone, Managing Director of LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort, expressed her appreciation for the partnership: “Our cooperation with the Dominikus-Ringeisen-Werk goes far beyond logistics. It’s an example of living inclusion that brings joy to everyone involved and showcases what’s possible when each person contributes their unique talents.”

Accessibility at the Highest Standards

LEGOLAND Deutschland has recently been recognized with the “Reisen für Alle” (Travel for All) certification, awarded by the Bavarian Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Tourism. This certification acknowledges the park’s extensive accessibility measures, including those at the LEGOLAND Feriendorf, the camping area, and the PEPPA PIG Park.

The park features 30 designated free parking spaces for guests with disabilities, as well as barrier-free access to all restaurants, family restrooms, and six specially designed rooms in the Feriendorf. Guests with a disability ID card featuring a B or H mark are entitled to free admission for one accompanying adult. To make rides more accessible, the park provides the “Nimm-Rücksicht-Armband” (consideration wristband), which facilitates entry to attractions.

Certified assistance dogs are welcome in the park, even though pets are generally not allowed. Additionally, a state-of-the-art first aid station offers complimentary services, including wheelchairs, crutches, and noise-canceling headphones. For guests with hearing impairments, the park provides written safety instructions and subtitled videos to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.
