Futuroscope has achieved another milestone in the theme park industry. Its water park, Aquascope, has been honored with the prestigious THEA Award for Outstanding Achievement - Water Park. This globally recognized accolade, often referred to as the “Oscar of the industry,” celebrates the groundbreaking combination of technology, creativity, and innovation that has positioned Aquascope as a global pioneer.
THEA Award: Global Recognition for Innovation
Aquascope was selected from 300 applications submitted by theme parks and water attractions around the world. The jury of the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) praised its exceptional technical execution and innovative design, which set new benchmarks for the theme park industry.
The announcement was made on November 19, 2024, during the IAPPA Expo in Orlando, Florida. The official award ceremony will take place on March 15, 2025, in Hollywood, California, during the 31st annual Thea Awards Ceremony.
Aquascope: A Visionary Project with Significant Investment
Aquascope is part of an ambitious investment plan by Futuroscope, amounting to a total of €304 million. With a budget of €57 million and a construction period of two years, the water park spans over 6,000 square meters of covered, themed spaces, offering three immersive worlds designed to cater to diverse visitor groups.
The Immersion Zone blends water with state-of-the-art technology, including video mapping, light shows, and choreographed water effects. Developed in collaboration with the Canadian firm Moment Factory, this area provides a multisensory experience, setting it apart in both artistry and technical innovation.
The Thrills Zone features eight exciting water slides designed to delight adrenaline seekers. A wave pool with a suspended net above offers visitors an entirely new perspective, while a dynamic outdoor river invites guests to interactive water adventures under the open sky.
The Kids’ Zone caters specifically to the youngest visitors, with mini slides, a creative water labyrinth, a musical cave, and a giant tipping water bucket that promises plenty of surprises.
Additional Honors and Global Recognition
In addition to the THEA Award, Aquascope was recognized in October 2024 with three European awards and the World Waterpark Association's Innovation and Creativity Award, further emphasizing its international significance.
This success follows another milestone for Futuroscope: In 2023, its attraction “Chasseurs de Tornades” was named the “Best Attraction in the World” by the TEA. Within just two years, the park has received two of the most prestigious awards in the global theme park industry—a remarkable achievement for a European destination.
Strategic Goals and Early Successes
Aquascope was developed with the aim of extending visitors' stays at Futuroscope and establishing Futuroscope Xpériences as a leading short-stay destination in Europe. Initial results are promising: In the summer of 2024, two-thirds of Aquascope visitors extended their experience by staying longer at the theme park.
Sustainability as a Guiding Principle
The project was designed with a comprehensive ecological approach. This commitment to sustainability is a cornerstone of Futuroscope’s strategy to integrate modern entertainment with environmental responsibility, setting new standards in the industry.
The Role of Key Partners
The realization of Aquascope was made possible through collaboration with prominent partners. The Banque des Territoires, SEM patrimoniale de la Vienne, and Compagnie des Alpes played pivotal roles in financing and developing this landmark project.
