On August 13, 2024, Familypark in St. Margarethen announced the start of construction for a new themed restaurant, set to open in the summer of 2025. The demolition of the old “Filippos Restaurant” in September 2024 will mark the beginning of a modern gastronomic concept designed in the style of a medieval castle.

Construction Start and Planning

On August 13, 2024, Familypark officially announced the launch of a new major project: the construction of a new themed restaurant to replace the outdated “Filippos Restaurant.” The demolition of the current restaurant is scheduled for early September 2024, with the opening of the new building expected in the summer of 2025. During the construction phase starting in September 2024, there will be minor disruptions to park operations, particularly in the areas surrounding the Schildkrötenkarussell (Turtle Carousel) and the Kletterbereich Sumpfburg (Swamp Castle Climbing Area), which will be temporarily closed. However, all other park attractions will remain open.

Reasons for the new construction

The current “Filippos Restaurant” no longer meets the standards expected by the park and its visitors. The growing number of visitors clarified that the old building was no longer sufficient in size or modernity. For this reason, the park management decided on a complete rebuild to meet the demands of contemporary gastronomic operations.

New Restaurant Concept

The new restaurant, which will cover an area of over 700 m², will offer visitors an open self-service concept. A spacious indoor children's play area and a separate room for corporate events are also part of the new dining concept. The outdoor area will feature a large terrace with 220 seats, while the indoor area will provide seating for 260 guests. This new restaurant will thus offer ample capacity to accommodate the park's increasing visitor numbers.

Design and Theming

The restaurant will be integrated into the Erlebnisburg (Adventure Castle) themed area and will be designed in the style of a medieval castle. This detailed theming is intended to offer visitors a unique atmosphere that transports them to another time. The combination of modern gastronomic technology and traditional design will create a unique dining experience that will further enhance the appeal of Familypark.

Familypark's Statement

Lisa Wagner-Körmendi, Familypark's spokesperson, emphasized the benefits of the new restaurant: “We are confident that the new restaurant will provide great added value for our guests. With modern catering technology and an expanded seating capacity, we will be better able to meet the needs of our growing number of visitors and offer our customers an exceptional dining experience thanks to the detailed theming.”

Halloween Event and Construction Halt

Special attention is also being given to the upcoming Halloween event, which will take place from October 25 to November 3, 2024. During this time, construction work will be paused to ensure an uninterrupted experience for guests. Additionally, extra food stations will be set up during the event to ensure visitors are well catered for.

Project Costs and Local Economy

The total cost of the project is estimated at 8.2 million euros. Familypark places a strong emphasis on contracting local companies for the construction work, thereby supporting the regional economy.
