On September 11 and 12, the women’s health congress “BXX be women, be healthy” took place at the Europa-Park Resort. The event focused on the topic of menopause, highlighting both medical and economic perspectives. Miriam Mack, Head of Corporate Health at Mack Group, hosted the event together with key partners to raise awareness and promote sensitivity to the issue in the workplace.
Expert Panels Featuring Top Speakers
The two-day congress, held in the Vineta Room at the Krønasår hotel, gathered around 70 invited experts from the fields of medicine, pharmacy, healthcare, and the pharmaceutical industry. The panels addressed a wide range of issues related to menopause, including its symptoms, medical background, the role of sports and nutrition, and the support pharmacies can offer women during this phase.
Participants benefited from the expertise of renowned speakers such as Dr. Judith Bildau, Prof. Andrea Rumler, and Prof. Julia Seiderer-Nack. The economic implications of menopause were also a major topic, particularly in light of the growing shortage of skilled workers due to women reducing their working hours or leaving the workforce during menopause.
Menopause as an Economic Factor
One of the core themes of the congress was the economic significance of menopause. Studies indicate that women in Germany over the age of 45 are increasingly affected by the impact of menopause, which often leads to reduced working hours and, in some cases, withdrawal from the workforce. In her opening remarks, Miriam Mack, the event's initiator, stressed the need for a supportive work environment for women: “By addressing the needs of women going through menopause and raising awareness, companies can make a significant contribution to long-term stability and success.”
Pharmacies as Trusted Support Centers
Leonie Bücher, managing director of “mylife media” and head of marketing for “IhreApotheken.de”, emphasized the key role that pharmacies play in supporting women during menopause. Through the “Zukunftspakt Apotheke” (Future Pact Pharmacy), in cooperation with over 7,000 pharmacies in Germany, a network has been created to specifically target women’s health concerns. Pharmacies offer the advantage of low-threshold, trusted consultation, especially when it comes to issues like menopause.
Health as a Priority at Europa-Park
Europa-Park proved to be an ideal cooperation partner for the health congress. Since March 2024, the theme park has been offering various health services for its employees through its “FeelGood” health center. Along with regular preventive check-ups by specialists in cardiology, dermatology, and ophthalmology, the center also provides physiotherapy support for employees.
Miriam Mack also plans to publish blog posts regularly on health topics with expert input on the new website, ep-feelgood.de. The goal is to raise sustainable awareness of health in the workplace through continuous education and preventive measures.
Strong support from partners
Elisabeth Varn, CEO of BurdaVerlag and Managing Director of “mylife media”, highlighted the importance of the partnership with pharmacies and the publisher’s mission to give health and well-being topics a platform: “With the 'Zukunftspakt Apotheke', we are breaking taboos and bringing women’s health issues to the forefront.”
Looking ahead to next year, Miriam Mack noted that the success of this year's congress is a clear sign of the need for more events of this kind. It is expected that the “BXX be women, be healthy” congress will return to Europa-Park in 2025, with even more exciting speakers and discussion formats.
