On November 21, 2024, the 21st “Helfen hilft!” charity gala took place in Europa-Park, raising a record-breaking €106,978 supporting the Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder e.V. (Association for Children with Cancer). The evening combined emotional appeals, high-profile entertainment, and exquisite culinary delights to improve the lives of families with children battling cancer.
A record-breaking donation for a worthy cause
This year’s “Helfen hilft!” charity gala raised an impressive €106,978, which will be used entirely to support the Förderverein für krebskranke Kinder e.V. For over 40 years, the association has been dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for young patients and their families. The funds will help finance essential projects, including the newly opened parents' house in Freiburg, which offers families a comforting place to stay during their children’s treatment.
A New Home for Families in Need
The parents’ house in Freiburg, inaugurated in 2024, is one of the Förderverein’s most significant projects to date. Built at a cost of €14.5 million, it features 44 rooms where families can stay close to their children during treatment at the University Children’s Hospital Freiburg. In addition to accommodation, the house provides psychological support and a vital refuge for affected families. The operational expenses of at least €140,000 per month underscore the importance of fundraising events like this charity gala.
Emotional Appeals and Moving Moments
Werner Kimmig, chairman of the Förderverein’s advisory board, opened the evening with a heartfelt speech. He emphasized the critical need for support, as approximately 2,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Germany. Particularly touching were stories of children who donated their savings to help others in need. Quoting Helen Keller, Kimmig stated, “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much,” highlighting the importance of community and solidarity.
A Gala Full of Highlights
The 380 attendees enjoyed an extraordinary evening featuring a world-class program. Under the theme “The world is not enough,” 30 artists and dancers performed a captivating show that took the audience on a journey around the globe. Culinary delights were provided by two-star chef Peter Hagen-Wiest from “Ammolite - The Lighthouse Restaurant,” who presented an exquisite four-course menu.
High-profile guests such as Paola Felix, Willi Stächele, and Christina Obergföll added a touch of glamour to the event and demonstrated their unwavering support for the cause. Long-time supporters like Martin Heuberger and Olaf Malolepski were also in attendance.
Long-Standing Commitment to Children with Cancer
Over the past 21 years, the “Helfen hilft!” charity gala has become a cornerstone event at Europa-Park. To date, these galas have raised over €2 million for the Förderverein. Since its founding, the organization has collected more than €50 million in donations, which have been used to improve the lives of families affected by cancer.
The Mack family, owners of Europa-Park, has been actively involved in supporting the association for more than 30 years. Roland Mack emphasized the park’s social responsibility and praised the longstanding partnership with the Förderverein.
The Impact of High-Profile Supporters
In addition to the gala’s distinguished guests, prominent figures such as Thomas Gottschalk, Katarina Witt, Harald Schmidt, and Carmen Nebel have played a vital role in raising awareness for the Förderverein’s mission. Their involvement has been instrumental in making the charity gala one of the most successful fundraising events in the region.
More Than Just a Recipient: The Förderverein’s Mission
