On April 13, the first church bike trail guide for Ortenau was unveiled, starting at Europa-Park. The route connects sacred buildings and culminates in Strasbourg.
Starting Point: Europa-Park
The newly developed route of the church bike trail begins in the impressive setting of the St. James Chapel, located in the 4-star Superior Hotel "Santa Isabel" at Europa-Park. This starting point not only symbolizes a blend of leisure and culture but also marks the commencement of a journey through Ortenau's religious landscape.
The Route and Its Significance
From St. James Chapel, the path leads to various village churches and ultimately culminates in Strasbourg. The chosen route offers cyclists both physical challenges and cultural and spiritual insights. Each stop along the way has its own story and significance, as detailed in the accompanying brochure.
Unveiling of the Trail Guide
Under the guidance of Ulrich Sapel and Herbert Kumpf, the brochure was developed with detailed route descriptions and information about each church. It was presented on April 13, a sunny day perfect for a bike tour. Approximately 30 participants followed the authors along a section of the trail that led them to Europa-Park.
Reception at Europa-Park
At Europa-Park, the cyclists were welcomed by Mauritia and Jürgen Mack, the operators of the park. They were supported by the deacons of the "Church in Europa-Park," Andrea Ziegler and Thomas Schneeberger, highlighting the close connection between the amusement park and the regional cultural landscape.
