Europa-Park in Rust has been honored with the German Sustainability Award 2024 by the German Sustainability Award Foundation (Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V.) for its comprehensive sustainability initiatives. The award, presented in cooperation with the German federal government and various institutions, recognizes Europa-Park as a “pioneer of sustainable transformation in Germany.” The award ceremony will take place on November 28, 2024, in Düsseldorf.

German Sustainability Award for Europa-Park

The German Sustainability Award Foundation recently announced that Europa-Park will receive the German Sustainability Award 2024 in the leisure industry category. This prestigious award acknowledges companies that have established themselves as role models in Germany through their sustainable concepts and initiatives. The award is presented in collaboration with the German federal government, the Council for Sustainable Development, municipal associations, business associations, as well as civil society organizations and research institutions. Its goal is to honor companies that are setting groundbreaking examples of sustainability within their industry.

Sustainability at the Heart of the Jury’s Decision

An independent expert jury thoroughly evaluated which companies and institutions in Germany are best addressing the complex challenges of sustainability within their respective sectors. Europa-Park stood out as a “pioneer of sustainable transformation” with its innovative strategies and actions in environmental protection, energy efficiency, and social responsibility. The jury emphasized that Europa-Park has achieved a high level of exemplary influence through its impactful contributions to transformation, serving as an inspiration for other leisure companies.

Diverse Initiatives for a Sustainable Future

As Germany's largest theme park, with over six million annual visitors, Europa-Park is actively committed to sustainable business practices. To create a more sustainable energy supply, the park uses a combination of solar and hydroelectric power plants. These environmentally friendly facilities cover a substantial portion of its energy needs, contributing to a more climate-friendly operation. Additionally, the park has implemented numerous resource-saving measures across its attractions and infrastructure.

Europa-Park’s sustainability strategy emphasizes environmental protection and includes initiatives that raise awareness among employees and visitors about sustainable practices. Through training sessions and informational campaigns, employees are educated on the importance of environmentally friendly actions, while visitors are encouraged to make their visit more eco-friendly through practical waste reduction measures and sustainable food options.

Sustainability as a Family Tradition

Ann-Kathrin Mack, partner of Europa-Park and head of its in-house design department, Mack Solutions, highlighted the deep-rooted family commitment to sustainability. “Our family has always placed a high value on sustainable economic practices. Our company was founded almost 250 years ago, and its success over this long period shows that sustainability has always been part of our philosophy,” Mack explained. She emphasized that sustainability goes beyond environmental and climate protection to include social responsibility, support for disadvantaged people, and youth development. These values are intended to carry the company forward into the future, strengthening its regional impact.

Award Ceremony in Late November

The official presentation of the German Sustainability Award 2024 will take place on November 28 in Düsseldorf. More than 1,000 guests from politics, business, and society are expected to attend the event, which, in addition to honoring the award winners, serves as a platform for exchanging ideas on sustainable strategies for the future. The award is a significant recognition of Europa-Park’s commitment to sustainable development, with investment and innovative concepts aimed at achieving a positive, long-term impact on the environment, society, and the economy.
