Europa-Park Rust: New Housing and Parking Projects Planned

The Europa-Park in Rust is advancing several construction projects. The local council has paved the way for new housing and parking facilities. From employee accommodations to senior residences and a large parking deck, the theme park is focusing on growth and infrastructure.

New Parking Deck with 3600 Spaces

Southwest of the Ed-Euromaus-Kreisel, a three-story parking deck for 3600 vehicles is being built. It utilizes the existing site and an adjacent green area. During the council meeting, concerns arose about increased traffic on Am Sendlinger street, a route used by the factory fire brigade. Building authority head Melanie Graß assured that traffic safety will be assessed in the process. Ewald Scherer noted that with significant spending on parking, Europa-Park should also consider ways to reduce car traffic.

Housing at Innerer Ring Ost II

On the eastern edge of the district, new employee accommodations for Europa-Park are taking shape. The building complex will sit next to the existing „Gemeinschaft Leben“ residences and the kindergarten at Innerer Ring. Spanning roughly half a hectare, the site is bordered to the south by Erich-Spoth-Straße. The council unanimously approved the development of the Innerer Ring Ost II zoning plan. Melanie Graß stated that four or five units will be provided to the municipality.

Ellenweg: Housing for Seniors and Employees

At Ellenweg, housing for elderly Rust residents and Europa-Park employees is being created. This requires amendments to the Ellenweg IV zoning plan and the land use plan. Originally intended for a senior care facility, no operator could be found, according to Melanie Graß. Benjamin Peter emphasized that the site was specifically reserved for seniors, and the new project at least partially fulfills this purpose. The senior housing quota will be contractually secured.

Expansion at the Southern Edge

At the southern edge of town, a 0.89-hectare area is being redeveloped. The zoning plan covers part of the Hotel Bell Rock parking lot and adjacent private and public green spaces along the K 5349 and Elz river. Parking facilities will expand, and conditions will be set for a Europa-Park Skulpturen-Allee along the Elz. Ecological compensation measures will be implemented in the biotop mosaic west of the Gärtnerei to offset environmental impacts.

Ecological Measures at Betriebshof

The Betriebshof/Gärtnerei Europa-Park zoning plan is being revised to enhance ecological compensation for the rescue station and other construction projects. West of the Betriebshof and northwest of the Gärtnerei, a diverse biotop mosaic is emerging, providing habitat for birds like the Steinkauz and Neuntöter, integrated with the adjacent nature reserve. Environmental office head Alexander Schindler explained that monitoring and regular mowing will ensure the goals are met. An earth wall required for drainage at the infiltration basin will be adjusted to reduce its visual barrier effect. Benjamin Peter raised concerns about potential groundwater pressure from the elevated basin after heavy rain, fearing flooded basements. Schindler countered that aerial surveys, digital water flow mapping, and expert reports will address such risks.
