In the ever-changing life of showmen's families, children and teenagers often find unconventional paths to education. The Europa-Park in collaboration with the "Fit on the Go" project, has taken a remarkable initiative to provide these children with a stable educational environment. This program exemplifies how flexible educational approaches can overcome modern challenges.
A Day of Recreation and Recognition
Recently, the 4-star Superior Hotel "Santa Isabel" in Europa-Park hosted 35 youngsters from showmen's families and their parents. This invitation, facilitated by the Mack family, owners of the park, was more than just a leisure activity. It was a gesture of recognition for students continuing their education under often challenging circumstances.
"Fit on the Go" – A Far-sighted Project
The "Fit on the Go" project, initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports of Baden-Württemberg, started twelve years ago. Since then, the project has grown not only in size but also in success. Beginning with a small group of five students, "Fit on the Go" now supports 71 children and teenagers from traveling families. The project offers tailor-made educational solutions suited to the needs of this unique lifestyle.
Success Stories: Education While Travelling
The program's successes are particularly noteworthy: last year, four teenagers completed their school education while touring with their families. In total, "Fit on the Go" has enabled 15 children from showmen's families to successfully complete their educational journey. These achievements are even more impressive considering that many of these students attend up to 30 different schools in a year.
Technology as a Bridge to Education
To ensure a seamless educational journey, "Fit on the Go" students were equipped with tablets and laptops, funded by a generous donation from “Santa Isabel e.V. Assistance for Children and Families.” Regional teachers from Baden-Württemberg support the students both in-person and digitally. Individual learning plans ensure that each student, regardless of location, receives necessary support.
Community Effort for Mobile Education
The "Fit on the Go" initiative impressively demonstrates how communities can collaborate to secure educational successes for children in unconventional circumstances. Europa-Park and its partners have created a model that views mobility not as an obstacle but as an opportunity for education. This initiative is a role model for how flexible education systems can be successfully implemented in our modern world.
The "Fit on the Go" initiative thus symbolizes a new era of education – an era where mobility and flexibility are no longer barriers but catalysts for educational success. In a world that is constantly changing, this project offers hope and continuity for families earning their livelihood on the streets of Europe. Europa-Park and its partners have proven that it is possible to make education accessible everywhere without compromising on quality. For the children of showmen's families, this is an invaluable asset, helping them not only to survive but to thrive and realize their dreams.
