In an initiative to revive the tourism sector during the Corona crisis, the Polish government has supported the amusement park Energylandia with almost 30 million euros. Through a nationwide voucher program for children, Energylandia became the main beneficiary of this state funding, aimed at boosting tourism affected by the pandemic.
Innovative Support in Times of Crisis
As part of efforts to bolster tourism in Poland amidst the ongoing global health crisis, the Polish government initiated a voucher program specifically for families. Each Polish child received a voucher worth 500 Zloty (approximately 115 euros), which could be redeemed at tourist facilities across the country. Energylandia, as Poland's leading amusement park, gained significant financial support through this program.
Energylandia Tops the Funding List
Between August 2020 and March 2023, these vouchers provided direct financial relief to the tourism sector. Although not all the provided vouchers were utilized, nearly 6.5 million children could benefit from this program. In total, 3.1 billion Zloty (about 719 million euros) were paid out to the tourism sector, with Energylandia being the largest single recipient of this initiative.
Targeted Investments and New Developments
The vouchers, designed specifically for tourist services, could not be exchanged for cash, ensuring direct inflow into the sector. Energylandia not only benefited from this program but has also used European subsidies in the past to finance its ambitious expansion projects. With the upcoming opening of the new theme area Sweet Valley, which is being realized after a two-year delay, the park continues its expansion.
Strengthening Tourism Through Government Initiative
The Polish government's voucher program turned out to be an effective measure to support the tourism sector in challenging times. Energylandia, as a showcase project of this initiative, impressively demonstrates how targeted state funding can contribute to economic recovery and development. With the forthcoming opening of Sweet Valley, the amusement park underscores its commitment to innovation and growth in Polish tourism.
