After extensive maintenance, the popular wooden racing roller coaster Joris en de Draak at Efteling amusement park is open again starting today. Visitors can choose between the “Water” and “Fire” themes.
Reopening After Intensive Maintenance
The dual wooden racing roller coaster, Joris en de Draak, a crowd-puller at Efteling Park, welcomes thrill-seekers again from today. After months of meticulous refurbishment, the two themed rides, “Water” and “Fire” are up for choice. Which track will you decide on?
Comprehensive Maintenance Over the Years
Since 2022, significant improvements have been implemented in three phases. Initially, parts of the wooden structure were replaced with more durable hardwood, and in the curves near the Python, with steel rails. The coaster's iconic dragon also underwent a comprehensive renovation. After a temporary opening in winter 2023, the attraction closed again on January 8, 2024, to complete the final phase of work.
Detailed Work for Lasting Quality
In addition to major renovations, the maintenance also included smaller but essential improvements. The access gates were reblasted and recoated, the victory banners cleaned and waterproofed, and the pavement of the forecourt was partially renewed. Decorations in the station building and thematic elements in the outdoor area were refreshed to offer visitors an immersive experience.
Outlook and Future Projects
While the current works are completed, further enhancements to the swamp area are scheduled in the coming weeks. These measures aim to ensure the long-term attractiveness and safety of Joris en de Draak.
