On April 18, 2025, the De Vliegende Hollander attraction at Efteling reopened after an extensive refurbishment. Visitors can now experience a thrilling new scene inside the ghostly ship and explore the revamped ’t Boeghbeeld souvenir shop. The redesign enhances the immersive adventure surrounding the legend of the cursed vessel.
Thrilling New Scene in the Ghost Ship
De Vliegende Hollander now draws guests deeper into its eerie world. At the end of the indoor section, a new scene designed by Efteling’s Karel Willemen awaits. Guests’ boats are engulfed by the ghost ship, placing them momentarily inside a burning shipwreck enveloped in smoke that swirls around dangling barrels and curtains. This scene symbolizes the corrupted soul of Willem van der Decken, the ship’s doomed captain. Only when the boat ascends does it escape the haunting grip of the ghost ship.Revamped ’t Boeghbeeld Souvenir Shop
After the exhilarating ride, guests enter the newly designed ’t Boeghbeeld souvenir shop, themed as a harborside woodcarving workshop. The shop’s facade has been widened, adorned with a new awning and decorative elements. Barrels outside on the plaza showcase the latest souvenirs, capturing the attraction’s nautical charm.Inside, a reconfigured layout with a new counter creates more space. The shop offers themed souvenirs, including costumes, T-shirts, and an exclusive attraction pin, which will soon be available in large quantities. Guests can personalize a logbook to commemorate their adventure. The Digi-Fotopas provides a digital photo and a video of the ride, perfect for sharing on social media. A self-scan checkout and a staffed counter, where photo products are also available, ensure a convenient shopping experience.
