New at Efteling: Enchanting Hansel and Gretel Dish Set - Efteling - Waiting times LIVE

Starting mid-July, Efteling amusement park will exclusively offer a new set in the popular “Once Upon a Time” dish series. The set features lovingly crafted illustrations from the fairy tale Hansel and Gretel.

Unique Features of the New Dish Set

The new dish set includes a cup, a bowl, and both lunch and dinner plates. Each piece is adorned with unique illustrations from the Hansel and Gretel fairy tale. Together, the drawings narrate the entire story.

A Look Back at the “Once Upon a Time” Series

The first dish set in the “Once Upon a Time” series was introduced in 2022, showcasing scenes from the fairy tale “The Indian Water Lilies.” Graphic artist Jasper Douenburg explained at the time: “We start with a cup, a bowl, and two plates featuring various illustrations from a fairy tale. If successful, we will add more sets from other fairy tales or attractions.” These collections are designed to serve both as functional items and as decorative art pieces.

Development of the Hansel and Gretel Dishware

Merel Pit, retail product manager, noted that the development of the first set took a year and a half. The new set builds on the experiences and materials of the first, with close involvement from Efteling's design department. The deep blue color of the new set complements the previous “Indian Water Lilies” set.

Jasper Douenburg added: “The line drawings stand out beautifully against the deep blue background, with gold providing a striking contrast. The dinner plate features a scene from the fairy tale, while the lunch plate showcases the iconic, fragrant cake. The cup is decorated with an illustration of the witch, and the bowl depicts the black cat and sweets from the gingerbread house.”

Availability and Additional Information

The new dish set will be available in mid-July in the souvenir shops Efteldingen and In den Ouden Marskramer. The “Indian Water Lilies” set will also remain available. The dishware is dishwasher-safe, but not microwave-safe. Depending on their subscription, visitors receive discounts on souvenirs: 5% with a Plus subscription and 10% with a Premium subscription.
