Efteling's cherished attraction, the Piraña, is undergoing a major renovation that promises to submerge visitors into an even more immersive world starting this summer. With an investment of approximately 8 million euros, the iconic theme park is undertaking a comprehensive overhaul of this beloved water ride, which has delighted countless visitors since its inauguration in 1983.

History Meets Modern Technology

After nearly four decades of fueling adventure, the Piraña wild water ride is being updated both aesthetically and technologically to meet current standards. The refurbishment aims to blend the rustic charm with modern infrastructure to ensure the ride's longevity and appeal for years to come.

Authentic Experiences Through New Rock Landscapes

Part of the attraction's reinterpretation includes replacing the original rocks and waterfalls. New formations designed by Efteling's own designer Karel Willemen will reflect the mystical ambiance of Middle America, offering an even more realistic natural experience. These detailed layers and intricate details create a backdrop that honors Piraña's history while exceeding today's visitor expectations.

Technical Innovations Serving the Experience

The renovation isn't just about visual improvements. Maintenance work also includes servicing the wave machines, repainting the entire facade, and upgrading the control systems. Replacing the four pumps that circulate water in the system, as well as modernizing the pump cellar and employing energy-efficient technologies, are also on the agenda.

Sustainability and Technology Working Together

Moreover, the upgrade includes renewing the lighting and audio system of the ride. Efteling is focusing on sustainability and efficiency: the entire lighting system will be switched to energy-saving LED technology, and the control cabinets, a remnant from the ride's early days, will be replaced with more compact and efficient models.

A New Chapter of Interactivity

A highlight of the revamped Piraña will be the water-spouting Incan deities, creating a dynamic and interactive experience. From the start, guests will be surrounded by water – with fog obscuring their view, water arrows shooting from the sides, and water fountains intersecting the boat's path.

Seasonally Adjusted Experience

Particularly notable is the adjustment of water effects to the season. In summer, when temperatures rise, visitors can look forward to a refreshing and wet ride, while in winter, the intensity of water plays is reduced for a pleasant experience.

The final touches on the Piraña are scheduled for completion by the end of June, although Efteling is aiming for an earlier conclusion to the renovation efforts. With the redesign of this attraction, Efteling reaffirms its commitment to innovation and quality, ensuring an unforgettable experience for guests. The Piraña remains a central piece of the Efteling adventure and is set to continue shining as such – ready to thrill new generations of adventurers with splashy escapades.
