Starting in December 2025, the Dutch theme park resort Efteling will bring the fairytale “Joris en de Draak” to the stage as a family musical. The performance will tour various theaters in the Netherlands and Belgium and is suitable for children aged 6 and up as well as adults.
A new fairytale adventure for the stage
Efteling, renowned for its magical attractions and shows, is expanding its offerings with the stage production “Efteling vertelt: Joris en de Draak.” This production, based on the well-known fairytale, takes the audience into a world of magic and adventure. Since 2010, visitors have been able to experience the tale on the wooden racing rollercoaster in the park. Now, the story will be brought to life as a musical.
A story of courage and love
At the heart of the musical is a kingdom terrorized by a fearsome dragon. The king and his subjects are desperately searching for a way to rid themselves of the creature. But when Princess Rosalie is chosen to be sacrificed to the dragon, all hope seems lost. In this bleak moment, Joris, an ordinary man who is secretly in love with Rosalie, steps forward. Despite the slim odds, he bravely faces the dragon. The central question remains: Will Joris save the kingdom?
A creative team behind the musical
The musical “Joris en de Draak” is brought to life by an experienced creative team. The script is written by Allard Blom, a renowned playwright with a history of successful stage productions. The music is composed by René Merkelbach, a seasoned composer who has contributed to many Efteling projects. The stage design was created by Joris van Veldhoven, promising an impressive production with fantastic visual effects.
Touring the Netherlands and Belgium
Beginning in December 2025, the family musical will be performed in various theaters across the Netherlands and Belgium. The show is aimed at a broad audience, particularly families with children aged 6 and older. Efteling’s theater troupe will take the audience on a journey into the world of fairytales, sure to captivate the hearts of all who attend.
