The Dutch theme park Efteling enters a period of tranquility and renewal with the end of the Christmas season. During the off-season, traditionally characterized by fewer visitors, the park seizes the opportunity for extensive maintenance and renovation work. For visitors planning to visit the park in the coming weeks, this means a limitation in the range of attractions available.

Widespread Renovations in January and February

Efteling, open 366 days a year, is compelled to carry out necessary maintenance work during regular opening hours. Especially in January and February, which traditionally attract fewer visitors, numerous attractions are closed for maintenance. Among the most prominent attractions no longer accessible from today are the water coaster “De Vliegende Hollander” and the wooden roller coaster “Joris en de Draak”.

“De Vliegende Hollander” and “Joris en de Draak” Under Maintenance

“De Vliegende Hollander,” one of the park's most popular roller coasters, will remain closed to visitors until the end of March. The maintenance work includes a thorough review and renewal of the technical systems to ensure the ride's safety and performance. The wooden roller coaster “Joris en de Draak,” also a major draw for park visitors, is expected to be closed until the end of April. In addition to replacing parts of the track, surrounding areas such as the photo point, the moor with the wooden bridge, street works, and the Kabinet der Strijdlustigen; a beverage vending area, are being revised.

“Raveleijn” Show Takes a Break

Another highlight of the park, the horse show “Raveleijn,” is also no longer part of the offerings from today. The show, known for its elaborate staging and equestrian feats, will take a break and is expected to resume at the beginning of April. This interruption allows the park to maintain the show arena and prepare for future performances.

Maintenance of the “Piraña” Water Ride

The water ride “Piraña” has been closed for renovations for two months already. The work is expected to be completed by the end of June, with the park hoping to reopen the attraction possibly earlier. The comprehensive renovation includes both technical improvements and a refresh of the thematic design.

Changes in the Fairy Tale Forest

In the Fairy Tale Forest, a central element of Efteling, the figures of Sleeping Beauty and The Little Mermaid are currently missing. As soon as Sleeping Beauty returns at the end of February, the candy house of Hansel and Gretel will undergo demolition and reconstruction. The village “Volk van Laaf” is also not being overlooked: In the coming months, several attractions such as “Lurk en Limoenhuys,” “Glijhuys,” “Lachhuys,” “Lot's Kraamhuys,” and “Lebberpomp” will be renovated.

Renovations at “De Soete Inval” and the “Carrouselpaleis”

The popular candy store “De Soete Inval” closes today for a makeover. The interior of the store is being completely redesigned, with the planned reopening in mid-February. The “Carrouselpaleis” is also affected by maintenance work, as well as the entrance area of the attraction “Vogel Rok.”

Restrictions at the “Badhuys” and Renewals in Dining Areas

The “Badhuys,” Efteling's swimming pool, is closed to visitors from today until January 11th and will often only be open in the evenings in the following weeks. At the beginning of 2024, the “Bosrijk” restaurant, the “Eethuys,” and the reception area will be redesigned to offer guests a fresh and modern ambiance.

Renewal for a Better Experience

The maintenance and renovation work in Efteling is an essential part of the park's commitment to safety, quality, and a continually new, enchanting experience for its visitors. Although some of the most popular attractions will be unavailable in the coming weeks, the park continues to offer numerous experiences that will enchant its visitors. The reopening of the renewed attractions is undoubtedly eagerly awaited and promises to make the park visit an even more magical experience.
