In a pivotal vote, the Anaheim City Council has approved the comprehensive development plan, DisneylandForward, aiming to expand the existing Disneyland Park with new attractions, hotels, and entertainment offerings.

Approval of the DisneylandForward Plan

The Anaheim City Council unanimously approved the DisneylandForward plan. This expansive development strategy is designed to extend the existing theme park facilities in Anaheim with additional hotels, retail stores, and entertainment venues. A second procedural vote is scheduled for May 7th, which will define more details of the project.

Planned Developments Under DisneylandForward

The DisneylandForward plan outlines specific development areas: new theme park attractions and hotels are planned on the west side of Disneyland Drive. The southeast side of the Toy Story parking lot at the intersection of Katella Avenue and Harbour Boulevard is slated for new retail, dining, and entertainment offerings. Additional pedestrian bridges and parking spaces are also part of the plan to enhance accessibility and the overall infrastructure around the parks.

Thematic Expansions and Investments

Disney plans to expand the thematic areas of its parks, including new attractions based on popular Disney movies like “Frozen,” “Tangled,” and “Avatar.” These new offerings aim to increase the park's appeal and provide a modernized experience.

Disney’s Economic and Social Commitments

Disney has committed to significant investments in the infrastructure and community services of Anaheim. This includes $1.9 billion for the development of theme parks and hotels, as well as additional funds for affordable housing and urban infrastructure projects such as sewage renovation and improvements to parks and streets in the area.

Significance for Anaheim

The City Council emphasized the importance of tourism to the local economy. Transforming surface parking lots into theme parks and other commercial facilities is expected to generate additional revenue for the city and improve services for its citizens.
