The Return of “Fantasmic!”

Disneyland's spectacular nighttime show “Fantasmic!” is making its comeback on May 24, 2024, at the Rivers of America in Disneyland Park. Known for its mesmerizing visual effects and thrilling scenes, this time the show will feature new special effects and a revamped battle scene between Sorcerer Mickey and Maleficent. Additionally, the beloved “Peter Pan” scene returns, now introducing the Lost Boys, who join Peter Pan and Wendy in their fight against Captain Hook.

Magical Production

“Fantasmic!” is an emotional show that brings scenes from various Disney animated films to life, captivating audiences with stunning colors and an exciting musical score. Mickey Mouse faces off against formidable villains using the power of his imagination. The show creates unforgettable moments from movies like “Fantasia,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “The Lion King,” brought to life with state-of-the-art projection technology, exciting live performances, and character appearances. Brilliant light beams, sparkling pyrotechnics, and shimmering mist effects enhance the epic atmosphere.

Historical Facts

When it originally debuted in 1992, “Fantasmic!” was the first nighttime spectacular in a Disney park to utilize new technology, combining an outdoor show with a stage performance and incorporating two sailing ships: the Mark Twain Riverboat and the Sailing Ship Columbia.

New Battle Scene and Return of the “Peter Pan” Scene

In the new battle scene, Mickey gathers all his magical powers, creating colorful light swirls while sparkling pyrotechnics shoot from his fingers. Maleficent, draped in her dark cloak and wielding her powerful staff, rises to a height of 35 feet (ca. 11 m), seemingly setting the Rivers of America ablaze. The iconic “Peter Pan” scene also returns, with the Lost Boys joining Peter Pan and Wendy in their fight against Captain Hook aboard a pirate ship. This dynamic sequence features spectacular duels and falls.

Technical Highlights

Every night, over 100 cast and crew members bring “Fantasmic!” to life. The show projects scenes from some of the most memorable Disney films onto three massive mist screens, each 60 feet (ca. 18 m) wide and 30 feet (ca. 9 m) high. The impressive water effects include 21 fountains and six “whale tails,” which shoot water high into the air during dramatic moments. Two light towers rise dramatically from the ground during key show moments, reaching a height of 40 feet (ca. 12 m) in less than a minute.
