Disneyland Paris faces a persistent challenge: “La Boutique du Château,” a souvenir shop located on the first floor of the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle, suffers from ongoing water damage. Despite a long history and numerous attempts to address the issue, including extensive renovation works in 2021, the problems persist, affecting both visitors' and staff's experiences adversely.

Chronic water damage haunts the magical place

For years, the shop has been grappling with the consequences of leakages: storms regularly lead to water seeping through the ceiling and flooding the interior. This week, the leakages were once again apparent as rainwater freely entered the shop. The staff has reluctantly adapted, resorting to temporary measures to protect the merchandise and premises. They cover parts of the inventory with cloths and collect water in empty containers, while securing slippery areas.

Extent of Damage and Public Attention

The long-term effects of the water damage are unmistakable. Images shared by a Disney fan on X (formerly Twitter) reveal the damaged ceiling of the atmospheric shop, including visible cracks and crumbling decorations. These pictures have stirred attention online and sparked debate over the need for more effective maintenance measures.

Failed Renovation Attempts

The issue of leakages appeared to remain unsolved even after the renovation works in 2021, when the building was scaffolded for nearly a year. Criticism over the handling of the legacy of “the world's most beautiful Disney castle” grows as the interior continues to be compromised by ongoing damages.

Urgent solutions are demanded

The continuous leakages in “La Boutique du Château” call for an urgent and lasting solution to preserve the cultural heritage and visitor experience at Disneyland Paris. Much is at stake – not only the satisfaction of the guests, but also the preservation of a landmark that enchants people from around the world.
