Disneyland Paris has unveiled Europe’s largest solar carport. Covering 20 hectares, 82,000 solar panels generate 36 GWh of green electricity annually, supplying 17% of the theme park's energy consumption.

The Project and Its Dimensions

Disneyland Paris has completed a major ecological project: Europe’s largest solar carport. This extensive construction project began in 2020 and took over three years to complete. It covers an area of 20 hectares and provides space for 11,200 vehicles. With 82,000 installed solar panels, the facility has a total capacity of 36.1 MWp, producing 36 GWh of clean energy annually.

Collaboration and Partnership

This forward-thinking project was realized in collaboration with Axpo subsidiary Urbasolar. The partnership started in 2020 and marks a milestone in the sustainable development of the theme park. Antoine Millioud, CEO of Urbasolar, emphasizes the contribution of the facility to sustainable energy supply and the energy transition.

Energy production and environmental benefits

The annual energy production of 36 GWh is sufficient to meet the electricity needs of a town with 17,400 inhabitants. For Disneyland Paris, this means covering around 17% of its current electricity consumption. Additionally, the carport protects 11,200 cars, motorhomes, and buses from extreme weather conditions such as heat, rain, and snow.

Environmental Strategy and CO2 Reduction

The project is a key part of Disneyland Paris's environmental strategy. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonize the energy supply. Thanks to the solar facility, 890 tons of CO2 are reduced annually in Val d'Europe. Damien Audric, environmental manager at Disneyland Paris, highlights that the project contributes to climate protection and enhances the visitor experience by improving comfort.

Technical details and additional benefits

The facility spans 20 hectares and includes 82,000 solar panels with a total capacity of 36.1 MWp, making it the largest of its kind in Europe. The photovoltaic carport provides protection for vehicles and significantly reduces CO2 emissions, supporting Disneyland Paris in achieving its ambitious environmental goals.
