Sarah Ousselin has been a member of the “Figure Finishing” team for almost 18 years. This team is responsible for the maintenance and design of attractions and decorations at Disneyland Paris. Sarah loves her job and emphasizes that she wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world: “I love everything about my job. It’s a craft and a passion! It’s about the colors, the creativity, and making people smile.”
Creation of the Duck Race Trophies
This year, Sarah had the special opportunity to design the trophies for the winners of the Disneyland Paris Duck Race. This exclusive event for Cast Members was held to celebrate Donald Duck’s birthday on June 9, and this year also marked the 90th anniversary of his first appearance on screen.
The Creative Process: From Idea to Trophy
Sarah began the creative process by drawing her ideas. From the initial sketch to the final product, various teams at the Disneyland Paris Central Workshops collaborated. The animation team created 3D print models, the carpentry team crafted the wooden bases, and the graphics workshop engraved the metal plates. It was a true team effort, with each contribution perfecting the trophies.
Inspiration and attention to detail
Sarah found inspiration in Donald Duck’s characteristic, slightly goofy, and clumsy personality: “I thought it was cute to have him sliding into the bathtub, so you only see his feet!” Every detail of the trophies was carefully considered and holds its own symbolism. The color of the base reflects the colors of the “It’s a Small World” attraction, where the event took place, and the balloons honor Donald Duck’s colors for his 90th birthday celebration.
