On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the iconic attraction Les Tapis Volants – Flying Carpets over Agrabah reopens at Walt Disney Studios Park Paris after an extensive 10-month renovation. Through the combined efforts of Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and several other teams, not only have comfort and safety been improved, but the attraction has also received a design overhaul. This brings the world of the Disney classic Aladdin (1992) to life for guests.

Return of the Magic: New Highlights of Les Tapis Volants

The Les Tapis Volants attraction has long been a staple at Walt Disney Studios Park, serving as a tribute to the 1992 animated film Aladdin. The extensive renovations aimed to enhance the experience on multiple levels, with a combination of visual upgrades and heightened safety standards. The team was particularly focused on capturing the film’s charm and preserving the nostalgic ambiance of the attraction.

Technical and Visual Upgrades for an Enhanced Guest Experience

During the 10-month renovation, Disneyland Paris teams carefully revamped all key elements of the attraction. The carpets, central structure, and decorations received a fresh coat of paint, reviving the attraction's vibrant look. The lighting and audio systems were also upgraded to modern standards, creating a more atmospheric experience for guests. Enhanced sound quality and strategic lighting effects intensify the ambiance for an immersive journey.

New Props and Thematic Design in the Waiting Area

Visitors are already immersed in the world of Aladdin while waiting in line, as new props referencing scenes from the film have been added. These additions enrich the experience and help make the waiting time more enjoyable, building anticipation for the upcoming adventure.

The Agrabah Atmosphere: A Homage to the Sultan’s Palace and the Marketplace

Special attention was paid to thematically designing the waiting area. A new floor, with paving designed to resemble the desert landscape around Agrabah, reinforces the setting of the film. On the left side, ornate pillars, lotus flowers, and a golden Cast Member booth symbolize the Sultan’s palace. On the right side, wooden pillars, tables filled with baskets of fruit, and colorful carpets represent the bustling marketplace where Aladdin and Jasmine first meet.

Hidden Golden Scarab: A Nod to the Magical Artifact

A subtle detail for attentive guests is the golden scarab, an homage to the magical artifact in the film that reveals the path to the Cave of Wonders. This nod to the original story adds an extra layer of discovery for visitors and enhances the thematic depth of the attraction.

Restoration of the Central Structure by Disneyland Paris Workshops

A crucial part of the work involved a comprehensive overhaul of the central structure of the attraction, meticulously conducted by Disneyland Paris’ central workshops. These efforts focused on preserving the original structure while enhancing its durability and stability. This technical upgrade ensures that the attraction remains in top condition for years to come.

The Return of Magic with an Authentic Presentation

These dedicated restoration efforts reflect Disneyland Paris’ commitment to preserving the magic and charm of their attractions while providing guests with a safe, authentic experience. Thanks to this renovation, Les Tapis Volants now offers a captivating blend of nostalgia and modern standards, allowing visitors of all ages to dive into the vibrant world of Agrabah.
